The so-called mother roll is essentially the product that results straight from production. This mother roll can be used directly or further processed into slit tape or chips. A typical product for its use are TAFNEX™ Structural Sheets. The mother roll can be stored at room temperature and does not need to be kept in a freezer. By cutting, the width of a UD tape can be adjusted, a process known as slitting, leading to the term slit tape. Common slit tape widths are 12 or 25 mm, but they can be tailored in tenths of a millimeter increments. Slit tape is used in the production of TAFNEX™ Woven Sheets, for instance, and is also the typical form in which UD tape is directly processed into components, for example via Tape Winding. Cutting a mother roll both in width and length results in what are known as chips. These chips are utilized for the production of TAFNEX™ Design Sheets. The chips can be directly used in pressing or forming processes. Below, you will find the typical delivery specifications:
